Lament of a Non-Athletic Girl

I love sports just as much as the next person. Football, even more so. However, I was not blessed with any athletic ability. I mean, I guess I could go on a rampage about how dance really is a sport and probably harder than a lot of other sports out there, but I've done that too many times and people are turning a deaf ear to me.
Actually, if dance was not choreographed step for step, then I probably wouldn't be good at that either. I trip across flat surfaces, I run into walls, and don't even get me started on my hand-eye coordination.
I really wish that I was good at sports, I really do. I tried for years to become good at basketball so that I could play with my friends and they would actually want me on their team. I even attempted volleyball. I used to be awesome at softball, but I lost my confidence in high school.
The reason why I'm kicking myself now is because I live with an extremely athletic roommate. She's a kick-butt soccer player and will go play any sport with a bunch of people for n, (i.e. guys). You see, guys here like a girl who will get out and play with them. Guys want girls who are fearless. I am definitely not fearless when it comes to sports. I tried once, though. I went to play walleyball and it didn't end well. The guys we played with only remember me from that incident.
So while I'm sitting in my apartment eating a breakfast burrito in my PJs, and writing a journal entry for my class that probably no one will read except my professor, my roommate is out, making guy friends and being awesome. Score!

Incoming!

Just to let my few readers know, I am enrolled in a creative writing class. It's basically awesome. I get to write whatever I want and I don't have to focus on writing a paper to please my professor. I write to please myself. Part of our homework is that we have to write journals everyday for at least 5 minutes on whatever our hearts desire. So, I will be posting what I write on my blog. Hope you enjoy :D

In Loving Memory. . .

Trends come and trends go faster than girls change their minds. We've seen it with scrunchies, talking back packs, and poop-roll bangs; more recently with skinny jeans, ipods, and 3D movies. But, what I'm talking about today are the ever popular 'Silly Bands'. Kids everywhere are wearing them. Even teenagers and adults have been spotted with one or two. They've become so extremely popular, that schools are banning their students from wearing them because of the distraction they create. Who is the genius who came up with this gold mine???

I will, indeed, admit to have owned one. I won't go so far as to say it was a prized possession, but it did hold a fair amount of sentimental value to me. Apart from the fact that my awesomely, amazing roommate give it to me, it was in the shape of the Princess Tiana from the Princess and the Frog. Yes, I am still obsessed with that movie. This weird, yellow piece of plastic had held its place on my wrist since I obtained it. In fact, while doing my parade duties as MSC 2nd Attendance, I had to hide it elsewhere on my person, (because it wasn't princess-like). When changing back into my real clothes, I thought I had lost it for good and I will admit (again) to having a bit of a freak-out.

My point in all this is simply that I loved my silly band. I loved it when little girls came into work and got excited, demanding to know what my silly band was. I love asking other people what kinds of silly bands they have, and finding out the stories behind them. Really, if I step back and look at the whole thing, I realized that silly bands are ridiculous and a waste of money. . . . but they're so cool!

On August 28, 2010, my silly band died a tragic and heroic death. I will never forget the love and friendship that band meant . . .

Summer Adventures

I know, I know. I have been an incredible slacker in terms of blog posting. The truth is, my life is just not that interesting. But, for the sake of those of you who live vicariously through me, (just kidding) I will try to be more faithful towards my blog.

Since I don't really have to patience to type out all of my amazingly fantastic summer adventures, I'll just give a rundown of my exploits. If I miss anything . . . well, my bad.

1. Competed my solo Forever and Always twice, and received 'High Gold' at Nationals as well as 2 first place awards.
2. Went to Lagoon. Twice. Don't really want to get into that again.
3. Got 2 jobs at the PC outlets which took up the majority of my summer, unfortunately.
4. Went to Texas to meet my smiley E and the rest of that fam.
5. Got FRIED at the beach in Galveston. I think my back peeled about 3 times.
6. Got my luggage stolen, (which held a significant amount of my sentimental belongings) in Texas. In broad daylight. Not a vacay high, that's for sure.
7. Waved my arm off in a bajillion county parades for my last few duties to the 2009 Miss Summit County Royalty.
8. Gave my autograph on old t-shirts to a bajillion lucky people from all over the world.
9. Went to the Shakespearean Festival to see Pride and Prej. and Much Ado About Nothing.
10. Saw too many 3D movies. What's all the hype?
11. Played Mario with Jillio. We kicked trash.
12. Competed in Miss Summit County for the 2nd time. Didn't have as much luck. At least I got away with an awesomely gaudy picture frame for being 'Most Photogenic' which is ridiculous.
13. My best friend/sister Jamie got married in the Salt Lake Temple. I was the MOH.
14. Met (again) Elder Perry at said temple and didn't realize it.
15. Took a road trip up to North Dakota to visit Hay Bay and her husband.
16. Went to Minnesota for the first time for like, 10 minutes because Hay got us lost from trying to show us a giant Viking ship.
17. Made THE MOST legit shirt ever. Thank you, Hay, for that.
18. Saw Mount Rushmore for the first time and got some awesome earrings from the gift shop.

Yep. That was my awesome summer. Are you jealous? You should be.
Now I need to go pack . . .

The World Hates Shalese Day

Have you ever experienced those days when you wake up and everything just goes downhill from there? Do you feel like the whole world got together while you were sleeping and unanimously decided to gang up on you? You know that it was safer to stay in bed than to risk actually walking out of your bedroom? Yeah . . . I thought so. That way my day today. Luckily, the Lord blessed me with a sense of humor today, so the things that normally would have made me cry, I actually thought were freaking hilarious.
OK, so here is the low-down on my adventures that took place today:
So the night before, I went to sleep rather late at night. I had been studying for finals all day and I was just getting in that last little bit before my test at 8 in the morning. (Yep, 8 am. Do you think that's ridiculously early in the morning too? So do I!) My plan was to wake up at 7 to do some last minute studying. My roommate came in at 7:40 and said it was time to go. Luckily, I had 4 years of drill team training under my belt and I was ready within 10 minutes. So we speed walk to the JSB and I endure an hour + of hand cramping, short answer questions. YES! One test down and only 3 more to go and it was only the 1st day of official finals! So, as I walk out of the JSB feeling extremely elated and, too be honest, a little bit goofy, my roommate and I decide to make an actual breakfast. We were going to make chocolate chip pancakes with bacon and hashbrowns. So I invited a guy from my New Testament class (which was the final that we had just taken) to come have some food, and being a guy of course he agreed. So Hil and I rush to get things together and in my haste, I was a little too enthusiastic about opening the chocolate chips. They EXPLODED and went EVERYWHERE! I just stood there with the wrappings in my hands for about 5 minutes while my laughing roommates cleaned up around me. Then, as I began to pour the pancake batter on the skillet, I realize something: I just made waffle batter . . . not pancake batter. My roommates laugh hysterically again when I tell them and we decide to just go with it anyway. As I start making the first pancake/waffle, I got a little too excited (again) over the fact that I was actually cooking . . . and soon enough I had burnt the 1st pancake/waffle. My loving roommates gladly took the reigns from me as I sat on the couch, a safe distance away from the food.
My roommate's surveillance of me did not last long enough. Later, when I had finished my dinner and my roommates were kindly finishing up the dishes for me, (because I could not open the dishwasher in the first place) they opened up a cupboard only to find my gallon of milk that I had gotten our 20 minutes earlier for a drink. Needless to say I couldn't breathe for the next 10 minutes from laughing so hard.
I thought my day was done. I was totally willing to accept the fact that my clumsiness and extra absentmindedness was due to the fact that it is finals week. But no, the world could not even let me have that much. The world had to add insult to injury. After Hil and I had gone to get shakes at the creamery (which we stood in line for, for about 20 minutes out the door) I was eating my Earnestly Chocolate with delight. Pretty soon, however, I discovered an odd, funky taste that did not match up with the sweet chocolate and caramel taste. I look down only to find chunks of Styrofoam swimming alongside the caramel cups. Yes, that's right, I had just eaten Styrofoam.
To say the least, my day has been very eventful and not at all dull. I have come to terms with the fact that I am an abnormally clumsy person for a dancer and I must have smashed a mirror or something. . . however, the good news is: tomorrow is Love Shalese Day! YAY!!!
