In Loving Memory. . .

Trends come and trends go faster than girls change their minds. We've seen it with scrunchies, talking back packs, and poop-roll bangs; more recently with skinny jeans, ipods, and 3D movies. But, what I'm talking about today are the ever popular 'Silly Bands'. Kids everywhere are wearing them. Even teenagers and adults have been spotted with one or two. They've become so extremely popular, that schools are banning their students from wearing them because of the distraction they create. Who is the genius who came up with this gold mine???

I will, indeed, admit to have owned one. I won't go so far as to say it was a prized possession, but it did hold a fair amount of sentimental value to me. Apart from the fact that my awesomely, amazing roommate give it to me, it was in the shape of the Princess Tiana from the Princess and the Frog. Yes, I am still obsessed with that movie. This weird, yellow piece of plastic had held its place on my wrist since I obtained it. In fact, while doing my parade duties as MSC 2nd Attendance, I had to hide it elsewhere on my person, (because it wasn't princess-like). When changing back into my real clothes, I thought I had lost it for good and I will admit (again) to having a bit of a freak-out.

My point in all this is simply that I loved my silly band. I loved it when little girls came into work and got excited, demanding to know what my silly band was. I love asking other people what kinds of silly bands they have, and finding out the stories behind them. Really, if I step back and look at the whole thing, I realized that silly bands are ridiculous and a waste of money. . . . but they're so cool!

On August 28, 2010, my silly band died a tragic and heroic death. I will never forget the love and friendship that band meant . . .
